There are two different ways to acquire a teaching visa. The particular method used will depend on how quickly you need your teaching visa. The first method is the most common.
Step One
We recommend you get started on this step even BEFORE you receive a job offer.
It is necessary no matter which school you will work for, and will save you time later.
Gather the following documents:
- A copy of the picture page of your passport
- A notarized diploma from the Korean Consulate or the original certificate
- Two passport-sized photos
- Official transcripts from your school's registrar
- A copy of your resume
To have your degree notarized visit your local Korean consulate or embassy (with your passport) and have them make a notarized copy.
(Click here for a list of consulates.)
This process usually takes overnight.
They will make a copy of the degree and put a stamp on it that verifies it as copy of the original.
If you must mail your degree to them make sure you include a self-addressed stamped envelope and correct postage (remember your return address).
If you do not do this they will not return your degree. There is a small fee for this service, so be sure to bring enough money if you visit the consulate, or enclose enough money if you are mailing it. Phone first, it will save a lot of hassles later. (If time is short you may be asked to send your university degree to us as this is faster.)
Step Two
Courier the documents gathered in step one to us. We recommend using FedEx or DHL. (You will be given an address when you receive a conditional offer of employment.)
Step Three
After your documents are received you will receive a visa letter. This letter and your passport should be taken to the Korean consulate nearest to you in order to receive your visa. (Click here for a list of consulates.) They will stamp your passport, and issue you a visa. There is a fee involved with this, so please check with them first.
If you have to mail the documents, remember to include the fee and a self addressed stamped envelope. (They will not return your documents without the SASE).
Done!
The other method is by using a regular tourist visa.
This is used when time is very tight. Basically you just pack your bags and come to Korea. Your visa arrangements are then accomplished by a trip to Japan (paid for by the employer.) This is very rare nowadays since the government has changed the rules.
