Walking to work

Here's what my daily walk to work looks like:

8:33am; 8:33am; 8:35am; 8:36am; 8:39am; 8:44am; 8:46am; 8:47am; 8:51am; 9:01am; 9:02am; 9:05am; 9:07am; 9:09am; 9:11am; 9:12am; 9:16am; 9:16am; 9:17am; 9:18am; 9:19am; 9:20am; 9:22am; 9:23am; 9:24am; 9:27am; 9:28am; 9:28am; 9:29am; 9:29am; 9:29am; 9:29am.

I did it on a Saturday... so not quite the same. (There are more people, and I start my walk earlier.)

X-mas weekend

Here's a bit of what I did on x-mas weekend.

Here's some stuffing. Putting the duck in the stove. Looks tasty I better have a plate.

After the food is gone, I better play some games.

NY Knicks

knicks_logo.gif

My friend, David, and I went to the NY Knicks game on Saturday.

Some pictures from the game: Picture 1; Picture 2; Picture 3; Picture 4; Picture 5; Picture 6; Picture 7.

The game was exciting. The Knicks came alive in the third quarter and started the fourth with a commanding lead. Their performance for the first minutes of the fourth quarter was—to say the least—lackluster. Eventually they woke up, and they won the game.

After the game, we met our friends Andrew and Mirae. We had a small snack.

Getting a Wii

On November 19th, 2006, Nintendo launched its new game console, the Wii, in North America. For some reason, I decided I should get one.

I arrived at the Jersey City Target at around 4:14am. There was already a substantial line. It turned out that I was number 50. The store had 63 units in stock, so I got one.

I carefully opened it. There was lots of stuff inside.

The unit is quite small. Not much bigger than my hand.

Using the system is comfortable (the big innovation is the motion-sensing controllers). Here's a character I made. The system came with Wii Sports, and I bought a couple games, including Trauma Center and Zelda.

Movie Time

We decided to watch a movie at the Regal Crown Theater in downtown Manhattan (near the WTC site). We wanted to watch March of the Penguins. Sejin got a big popcorn.

sejin_popcorn.jpg

Shortly after the movie started some drunks started making noise. After complaining about them, they threw water at me and Sejin. That wasn't nice. We decided to leave the theater.

Maybe one day we'll get to watch that movie.

An Elevator Review

Cleary New York:
A speedy elevator. During business owners the 45th floor had access to an elevator that had as it's first stop the 45th floor. Very convenient.

Cleary Hong Kong:
Pretty slow. Interestingly the door would stay open until the 'close door' button was pressed. Unlike North American elevators, the 'close door' button actually had a purpose and was connected to something.

Kim & Chang, Seoul:
Only need to get to the fourth floor, so speed is not much of a concern. The door does close without having to use the 'close door' button. A unique function of this elevator is that if you press the floor button again, it 'unselects' that floor. I surprised someone in the elevator with me, when I turned off the floor we were headed to.

Conclusion:
I like when the doors close automatically, as I would sometimes forget to press the close button. Additionally, the cancel the floor feature is neat, but it's utility is limited. The winner is, therefore, Cleary New York (especially if one is stationed on the 45th floor.)

Me and Spiderman

Me and my friend Derek went to Spiderman II, which we almost watched twice.

sejin_happy_nj.jpg

We also went to Starbucks. Here's me. Here's Derek.

We walked across the George Washington Bridge. Here's me next to the bridge.

I also saw a lot of garbage. (It reminded me of Dexter's bedroom!)

It was pretty interesting.

After the event we went to an Italian restaurant called La Mela Ristorante.

The food was great and the drinks were good. (Although Wonbin drank all the wine.)

We ended up staying up way too late and eventually we saw a ghost.

We met up with David Potterbaum, and saw some fireworks.

After the fireworks were over, we went to a bar called the Hairy Monk.

When Lobsters Attack

Sejin and I went to Jack's 99 World and the fish market today.

Along the way we passed Madison Square Gardens.

We bought some candy. First, Sejin was a turtle, and then I was a turtle.

After shopping we stopped at a bar.

couple_in_bar.jpg

Here's a picture of all the fish we bought. We got two lobsters, some salmon and sea bass.

We let the lobsters swim around a bit. I tickled a lobster.

Finally, the lobsters were tired and they had to go to bed. Here's me holding them. For some reason they moved closer to me.

Oh no! Then they attacked me!!!

On Wednesday, we went to a benefit for the Urban Justice Center. They had a blues band, and Virgil's Real BBQ (which we encountered during Threater Night.)

Saw a fellow U of C student and talked with people from my firm. Not a bad night. (Didn't win any of the auctions, though.)

Today Sejin and I went to the Bronx Zoo.

We took the 1/9 subway to 96th Street and transfered to the 2 up to the Bronx.

We saw a tiger, elephants, a peligan, flamingos, a wild pig, a duck, a gorilla, a pink bird (Close up), and a llama.

Sejin ate a hot dog, laid an egg, and generally looked cute.

We hatched from eggs. We were caterpillars and then we were turtles.

There was a butterfly exhibit. We saw a zebra butterfly, an orange butterfyl, a group of butterflies, a blue-black butterfly, and another orange one.

We came home after the zoo, and Sejin cooked me salmon. I hope its good.

We made raviolli and fritters.

Sejin made me some hearts: Raviolli Heart; Fritter Heart.

They served us lemon chicken, wine, espresso and sambuca....

It was fun, but there was so much food.

(I think the Chef really liked Sejin.)

Yesterday I had the best subway driver. It was like being on a tour. At each stop, she announced the location and what locations were near the station. For example, at 34th Street she told us about Penn Station, and Macy's.

She made everyone in the subway car happy. I had wished I could have gave her a big hug.

According to their website:" Bowlmor Lanes, a New York landmark since 1938, has been described as "an art gallery you can bowl in." Every detail was designed to create a feeling of sophisticated whimsy. Everyone from Richard Nixon to the Rolling Stones to Cameron Diaz has enjoyed Bowlmor — shouldn't you?" Click here.

It was pretty fun. Sejin beat me.

Lazy Sunday

We started the day off having brunch at a place called the Kitchenette. It was good. I had eggs, biscuits, and grits. Sejin had a turkey sandwich. It was big. It was bigger than Sejin's mouth. It was also bigger than my mouth.

After that we went downtown. We saw a street market. Sejin had a gyro.

Sejin looked really sweet.

On the way home, I wrote Sejin a note in Korean.

The event featured the Sugar Hill Gang. It was a charity event for inMotion.

Grocery Shopping

I went to the Met, our local grocery store.

I bought 10 pounds of rice of at $2.99.
I can't believe how cheap rice is here!

I also got some milk at 1.99, laundry detergent at $1.99 + $0.17 tax, low fat yogurt at $1.99 and blueberries at $2.49.

The same size box of bluberries at Appletree (another nearby grocery store) was $3.29. Also the same brand milk was $2.29 at Appletree.

I don't like Appletree!!!

Week Three

Week three at CGSH has started. I had to attend a dinner. After the dinner Sejin and I met in Times Square. We drank some juice. Sejin tried to drink some with her nose.

Sejin bought a dress and some Homer Simpson boxers. The dress was $14.90 and the boxers were $3.90. What a good deal!

Sejin started the day eating some chips. After that she did some shopping.

We went to Battery Park with David Potterbaum. There were some umbrellas with butterflies on them. We also saw the Statue of Liberty.

Busy Saturday

Sejin and I visited the Museum of Sex. Here's the museum's sign. Here's a a list of "do not do's". It had some 'interesting' exhibits, including a history of Chinese foot binding.

We also visited Grand Central Station. Here's Sejin.

Then we walked over to Rockefeller Plaza.

We visited Central Park.
cent_park_sejin.jpg

Sejin disobeyed a sign!! We also saw a duckie. Central Park was nice. We walked around, ate lunch on the grass, and watched a baseball game.

Along the way we saw and Trump Tower and the sign for David Letterman.

chicago_little.jpg
Finally we watched Chicago the Musical. Here's Sejin waiting in line.

We enjoyed the show, but I think we liked Mamma Mia better.

Payday

Today was payday! I was happy.

Sejin and I visited a Korean restaurant.
kfood1.jpg
The food was okay, but unfortunately there was a bug in Sejin's soup. Yuk! I thought they wouldn't charge us for Sejin's food (after it was replaced, of course), but they did. Not only did they charge us, but they were unhappy when we didn't leave a tip. (I'm pretty sure you don't have to tip if there's a bug in your food.)

We walked up to Times Square and Sejin got a sign with her name on it.

We when then went to Ruby Foo's to have some drinks. It was crowded and service was only passable. Not too impressive.

Finally, we headed home.

Mamma Mia!

mm_bigsign.jpg
Another Picture

Thursday night was theater night at Cleary Gottlieb. Sejin and I went to Mamma Mia.

It was very fun. After that we went to Virgil's Real BBQ. There was a really a lot of BBQ. When we first arrived they gave us chicken wings. We thought this was the meal. Surprisingly, roasted chicken, ribs, corn muffins, and greens showed up. (Sejin ate a lot!)

We eventually made it home. What a nice night.

Posted by dexter at 08:03 PM | | New York

To the Theater

I had to take a taxi to meet Dexter at the theater.

The driver was quite fast and agressive. We made it to the theater quickly.

When we pulled over a beggar came over to talk with the taxi driver. He asked for money. The taxi driver said no, and then surprisingly the beggar spit on the car window. The taxi driver had to clean the car window. He used whiskey!

It is highly likely the taxi driver had been drinking that whiskey earlier. A tasty drink and a good window cleaner, too!

More Sushi

Let us tell you a story about a boat of sushi...
sushi boat.jpg

Like the fated crew of the S.S. Minow, the story is not a happy one.

Firstly, Sejin was really hungry. When the food came out we were generally impressed (see picture above).

However, all was not well. The rolls were generally overpacked with rice and the fish lacked taste. The leftovers tell the sad tale: Leftover 1 and Leftover 2.

Dexter and Sejin went home unhappy.

If you visit New York, don't visit the Sushi restaurant Yoro at 106 Fulton Street.

Last Night in NYC

Sejin and I (and my friend David) walked by the restaurant that is featured in Seinfeld. (Tom's Restaurant.) Actually only the outside part is in the television show. The inside looks much different.

Also, we met Sponge Bob Square Pants. He was in a bad mood. After removing his costume to reveal a bitter old man, he began to swear profusely. He was upset at the police. After seeing us laugh, he apologized and resumed cursing.

We had a few drinks at a nice bar, ate a giant sized pretzel, and went home.

Pictures will follow...
